ROLEMODELS SHOW!

ROLEMODELS!

The pictures are out and you can buy a print OR TWO! Christmas is coming up and there are so many good looking drawings, it is browser crashing!

“But what is the Rolemodels exhibityou ask?

WELL, it’s a gallery show by the fine folk over at Light Grey Art Lab where artists where asked to draw the content of a role playing game ala Magic the Gathering.

Paladins, Rouges, Mages or in my case, a whole continent.

My brief was to paint the “water kingdom” and I thought it would be fun if they would not only LIVE on an island, but also travel with it. A deluxe version of a caravan where you burn and destroy every village you randomly arrive at.

SOME BEHIND-THE-SCENES STUFF:

image

1) The basic baby of my idea, narrow housing + moving vehicle + water!

image

2) A first sketch, alright alright.. going somewhere!

image

3) Put some paint on that and THEN.. decided that it felt too small..some of my peers thought they actually were giant ships.. not islands.. it had too little scope..

image

4) AH! Ok.. more scope!

image

5) Decided I wanted something friendly and bright to balance the terror and fear that those islands are bringing into this poor fantasy world..

image

6) More tinkering, cut of an island up in the corner to give the impression that there are a TON of them and LE DONE! (click for the big version)

Oh and hey, the gallery people are also running a podcast that has loads of artists interviews and inspiring words in times of struggle:
